Matachewan Aboriginal Access to mining jobs Training Strategy (MAATS) provided innovative employment and training opportunities for Aboriginal peoples in rural/remote area, within the Wabun Tribal Council area.

Provided career assessment and counseling to prospective training participants and provided educational, training, work experience and interventions.
Identified and developed a training plan for candidates who had the interest and ability to move into supervisory, management positions and mentoring roles.
Provided permanent job placements as well as retention and advancement programs to active participants over the life of the project.

– Apprenticeships in: Heavy Equipment Operator/Mechanic, Millwright, Electrical, Welding, other
Individuals of Aboriginal Ancestry who met the requirements. Individuals who were unemployed or underemployed. Must have been 18 years or over to participate.
