|Chief Alex ‘Sonny’ Batisse
Matachewan First Nation
I am very grateful and happy to be back in the position of Chief for Matachewan First Nation. I want to thank all those members who put their trust in me with their votes. I also want to congratulate all of our council members who were elected and I am looking forward to working with them. Of course, I also want to express my gratitude to Elenore Hendrix, who led our First Nation as Chief for the past two years. It is good to know that she is bringing her many years of experience with her election as a council member. To those council members that did not make it back I give thanks for their efforts over the past few years. We have a great team going forward with experienced council members and a couple of new faces. That is going to provide us with lots of know how and some fresh new ideas.
This is the second time I have been elected as Chief and that makes it a little easier to step into the position with the knowledge of how things work on council. There are many opportunities and challenges before us and we will have to work together to make sure that we fully represent all of those people who put their trust in us.
So, with the support and encouragement of our Elders and the hope of our youth for the future I intend to do my very best with our newly elected Council to make things better for all of our members.
Matachewan First Nation held its 2015 Elections on March 21, 2015. This is the second time that Chief Alex ‘Sonny’ Batisse has been elected as Chief of the community. He previously led the community from 2009 to 2011.
